Fordyce Castle

This wee charmer sits at the heart of the village of Fordyce in northern Aberdeenshire, just up the road from the better-known Findlater Castle. The 16th century tower features immaculately carved designs in its corbelling as well as several gun loops for defence, and can be approached, as in this picture, from along the medieval, cobbled 'Castle Lane'. The whole place has a slightly Harry Potter feel to it, as the castle balances an interesting history with aesthetic flair. I think this photo captures the moment of discovery and curiosity that comes along with approaching these historic hidden gems.
