Pisa church and tower

Pisa is famous, mostly for its leaning Tower, but the real beauty is the complex formed by the Cathedral, Baptistery and Tower. The Cathedral, as seen in this photo is one of the most beautiful examples of Romanesque architecture of the 9th and 10th Centuries. The style is a mixture of Islamic, Byzantine and Tuscan architecture and the first major work of architecture not commissioned by the church. The white marble that clads it came not only from quarries but also from disused Roman buildings in the area.
